After many years away from California pursuing his education and practicing as a general, surgical, and cosmetic dermatologist in Rhode Island, Dr. Collins has returned to bring exceptional care to his patients at the practice.

Dr. Collins was born and raised in La Canada, California, just outside Los Angeles.  He graduated with his bachelor’s in exercise science and a minor in Chemistry from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He then moved on to earn his four-year medical school degree at Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona. He graduated at the top of his class with honors and and a 3.95 GPA.

After medical school, Dr. Collins completed a one-year internship at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis, Oregon. He then moved across the country to Florida where he completed his three-year derm training at the Dermatology Residency of Orlando/Advanced Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery. As expected in sunny Florida, Dr. Collins gained extensive experience in the treatment of skin cancer with Mohs and surgical dermatology. In addition to the hundreds of Mohs cases he experienced, Dr. Collins completed hundreds of facial reconstructions while training with a plastic surgeon. He consistently scored above the 95% percentile on the US national medical licensing exams and the dermatology board exams. He is double board-certified in Dermatology and Mohs Micrographic Surgery by the American Board of Dermatology, the largest and most comprehensive board certification for dermatologists.

Dr. Collins has been actively involved in dermatology clinical trial research as an investigator, publishing both articles and textbook chapters. Taking research as a crucial part of his medical knowledge and progression, Dr. Collins completed a research elective at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. During his study in Florida, Dr. Collins also participated in an externship for complex medical dermatology through the University of California, San Francisco. He is currently an educator and Adjunct Associate Clinical Professor teaching medical students from Touro University.

To diversify his Mohs surgery education, Dr. Collins completed the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) surgical preceptorship in Mohs surgery in Portland, Oregon. Cosmetically, he trained on many different lasers, fillers, and neurotoxins; he also attended the Premier Cosmetic Resident Symposium, sponsored by the ASDS, to enhance his training. Dr. Collins demonstrated leadership amongst his peers and was chosen to be the Chief Resident during his last year of dermatology residency.

Dr. Collins loves to spend time outdoors with his wife, three kids, and their Australian Shepherd outside of work. He has lived in many different places, including Arizona, Hawaii, Oregon, Utah, Florida, and Rhode Island, and brings the experience and understanding from living in many parts of the country

During visits with Dr. Collins, he will present you with all the proper medical treatments and then let your values determine what treatments are to be given. His practice style steers away from the older paternalistic model of healthcare.  He is well trained in general, cosmetic, and surgical dermatology and is excited to bring you the best and latest dermatologic care.
